Nguyên Lê

An eclectic guitarist of Vietnamese origin, Nguyên Lê (born in Paris, France, on January 14, 1959) is a fan of musical combinations at the crossroads of jazz, rock and traditional music, particularly Asian. Founder of the group Ultramarine in 1983 and accompanist in jazz and chanson, he joined the Orchestre National de Jazz (1987-1989) before embarking on a solo career rich in collaborations. His career, tinged with jazz fusion in trio or quartet, is gradually enriched by his encounters with new flavors. The album Tales of Viêt-Nam (1996), with singer Huong Thanh, is one of his finest achievements. Maghreb & Friends followed in 1998, and in 2002 a tribute to Jimi Hendrix. Another dedicated to Pink Floyd, Celebrating the Dark Side of the Moon, was released in 2014. A pillar of the German ACT label, Nguyên Lê collaborates with Michel Benita, Peter Erskine, Paolo Fresu, Dhafer Youssef and Renaud Garcia-Fons. In 2017, he returned to Vietnamese tradition with multi-instrumentalist Ngô Hong Quang on the album Ha Noi Duo.
