Nicholas Tse is a Cantopop rock musician, martial artist, and Hong Kong Film Award-winning actor who was born in British Hong Kong on August 29, 1980. The son of iconic actor Patrick Tse, he moved frequently as a child, living in Hong Kong, British Columbia, Japan, and central Arizona. He signed his first record deal as a 17 year-old and released his debut album, My Attitude, in 1997. My Attitude reached Number 3 on the IFPI Singles chart, with Nicholas Tse being named "The Most Popular New Artist" at that year's Jade Solid Gold Best Ten Music Awards Presentation. Horizons was released in 1998, with singles like "早知" and "如果只得一星期" turning Tse into a teen idol. One year later, his hit "非走不可" was named one of the year's highest-selling songs at the 1999 Jade Solid Gold Top 10 Awards. Over the next decade, Nicholas Tse released albums in both Cantonese and Mandarin, with 1999's Grateful for Your Love '99 marking his first Mandarin release. Nevertheless, he remained most popular in the Cantonese market, where albums like 2000's Viva and 2001's World Music Award-winning Jade Butterfly became bestsellers. At the same time, he enjoyed a mainstream career as a film actor, teaming up with Jackie Chan for 2004's New Police Story, winning a Hong Kong Film Award for Best Supporting Actor with 2009's Bodyguards and Assassins, and winning the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actor with 2010's The Stool Pigeon. Although his film career eventually eclipsed his music career, Nicholas Tse released a series of non-album hit singles during the 2010s and early 2020s, including the chart-topping "有火" in 2018, the Wang Jiaer duet "塑造" in 2019, and the Rage theme song "對峙" in 2021.
