Nina Morato

Best known for her debut single "Maman", Nina Morato won a Victoire de la musique award and represented France at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994. Born in Paris on March 2, 1966, Stéphanie Morato grew up in Malakoff and began recording under the name Stéphanie in 1983 ("Funky School" and "Tous ces amoureux"), then Christie in 1988 (a Nino Ferrer medley, "Mirza, Oh hé hein bon, Gaston y'a l'téléphone" with her partner David Christie) and Stéphanie de Malakoff ("Mon p'tit Arthur" and "T'en fait 2 fois trop " in 1990). In 1993, Nina Morato signed the song "Maman" under her own name and a new first name , and released it with several remixes. The album Je Suis la Mieux (1994), produced by Jérôme Pigeon and Bruno Maman, featured Matthieu Chedid on guitar, and brought the singer to the attention of a wide public, who acclaimed "Maman" and "Je suis un vrai garçon", chosen to represent France at the 39th Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin, where Nina Morato came 7th. Awarded "Female Revelation of the Year" at the Victoires de la Musique awards, the singer performed the French version of the theme from Mr . Jack's Strange Christmas, "La Complainte de Sally", and starred in Christian Vincent's film La Séparation. In 1996, Nina Morato recorded her second album for Polydor, L'Allumeuse, which failed to live up to the success of the previous one. She returned three years later with Moderato (1999), dedicated to her second daughter Julia, who had died two years previously. It includes duets with Princess Erika ("Adieu") and Arthur H ("En harmonie"). In 2000, the Francofolies de La Rochelle festival devoted an evening to the artist, "la Fête à Nina Morato", before she took part in the title track of the women's collective Les Voix de l'Espoir, "Que serai-je demain?" (2001). Back on stage in 2006, accompanied by Arthur H., Camille Bazbaz, Albin de la Simone and the group Tanger, Nina Morato appeared in the movies Ma vie en l'air (Rémi Bezançon, 2005) and Le Bal des actrices (Maïwenn, 2009), for which she wrote three songs. She made her theatrical debut in 2007 in Eve Ensler's Les Monologues du vagin, and went on to play in Jérôme Savary's Don Quichotte contre l'ange bleu. In 2016, she released her new album Nina Morato, with the title track "Fanfaron", followed by several stage appearances.
