Known by several aliases including Make A Sound 0094 and MAS before settling on their current moniker, five-piece boy band ONEWE emerged out of the South Korean capital of Seoul in May 2015, initially gaining traction with a series of charity covers of nationally renowned songs. Ten months on, the group had recorded and released a full EP of original works entitled Feeling Good Day, and they boosted their profile internationally at the end of the year with an appearance as the closing act at the Hello Starlight Forest New Year’s Eve Concert in China. A second EP, Make Some Noise, emerged in 2017, and they were the subject of media attention later that year after Dongmyeong starred in the boy band survival show Produce 101. Signing to prominent label RBW as a result, the full group subsequently participated in another elimination series, The Unit, in late 2017; however, none of its members progressed into a new band, and they instead refocused on their collaborative musical output. After a period of quiet, ONEWE resurfaced in 2019 with their debut single, “Reminisce About All”, which reached the top 40 in Japan. A flurry of eclectic songs drawing on influences from pop, R&B, indie rock and dance music followed, including “Q”, a collaboration with superstar Hwa Sa which reached #12 in the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart, and “End of Spring”, an uptempo EDM number. Each of these tracks appeared on the group’s debut album, ONE, which arrived in May 2020 and peaked at #13 in their home country. Celebrating a monumental year, they returned in December with a short EP entitled MEMORY : illusion, which reached #19 in the national charts.
