orangespinycrab is a Japanese rock band from Kitaibaraki, Ibaraki, where the group formed in 2012 under the original name "The Virgins." A name change followed in 2014, with the band rechristening itself "The Dotes." By the late 2010s, The Dotes' four members — vocalist/guitarist Yusuke Suzuki, guitarist Naoto Suzuki, bassist Yuki, and drummer Yurito — had settled on the name orangespinycrab, and the band released its debut single, "Binkan Shoujo," in January 2019. The singles "Mosaic" and "7997" were also released that year. Two mini-albums, Iratsukutoki wa Itsudatte and Hinichijou, were released in 2020, with Hinichijou reaching number 54 on the Oricon Albums chart. Meanwhile, the single "Kinmokusei" became the band's first genuine hit, climbing to number 20 on Billboard's Top 100 Singles chart in Japan and paving the way for 2021's "Gamazumi," which reached number 63. Also arriving in 2021 was the band's full-length debut album, Unmeasurable, which was released by the major label Warner Music Japan. The album charted at number 70. Orangespinycrab's sophomore release, Crop, was released two years later in 2023, featuring singles like "To The One Where You Are" and "Time Travel Melon." The album's title track was a hit, too, reaching number 36 on Japan's Top 100 Hot Songs JWAVE chart. Two years later, the band announced its next release, 2024's Seikatsunante.
