Otto Serge

Otto Serge accompanied his father playing guacharaca (a type of percussion instrument) with the contemporary songs of the composer Rafael Escalona. Later he moved to Cartagena to study and it was there that he met his long term partner, Rafael Ricardo in a bar called La Piragua where they both used to sing. They began recording together in 1979 but only after Rafael Mejía, the owner of the Codiscos record label, brought them together in the studio to record and release 'Mi Sentimiento'. At the time Serge was living with an aunt and was was studying medicine - one of the reasons for the later nickname of Los Doctores del Vallenato. In 1991 Serge and Mejía split and Serge recorded two albums with Henry Ortiz. In 1992, he recorded a number of songs with Franco Argüelles before joining up with Escalona once again in 1994. That was also the year that the duo parted ways with Codiscos to sign for Sony Music Colombia. Serge and Ricardo recorded a number of best-selling songs and LPs for Sony until 2004 when Serge ceased recording in order to devote more of his time to looking after his patients.
