A major player on the French music scene, double bassist Patrice Caratini (b. 1946) began his career accompanying jazz and chanson stars, before leading the Onztet (from 1979 and the album Endeka to 1989), a duo with Marc Fosset, a tango-oriented trio (1982-2002), the POM (1992-1996) and the Caratini Jazz Ensemble from 1997 onwards. At the same time, he composed a series of works commissioned by festivals and institutions, including music for the ballet Fabulazione (1988) and La Rivière de Glace (1997) for the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France. A lover of all kinds of music, he promoted both chanson réaliste and Caribbean music with Latinidad in 2009.
