Born in Sfax, Tunisia, on March 21, 1952, Patrick Coutin is associated with the 1981 hit he wrote, "J'aime regarder les filles". A student at the Sorbonne (Paris), studying philosophy and visual arts, his passion for rock led him to write for the magazine Rock & Folk. Also a musician, the guitarist and singer tried his luck and recorded a debut album for the Epic/CBS label, Coutin (1981), at the Château d'Hérouville, featuring the fiery track "J'aime regarder les filles", which proved to be a radio hit, ranking no. 37 in the French charts and no. 15 in Belgium, before becoming a phenomenon through numerous covers, including those by the group Astonvilla and by Rachida Brakni and Liane Foly. In 2011, the song was used as the title track for a film by Frédéric Louf. Patrick Coutin wasted no time in returning to the studio for the albums Un Étranger dans la Ville (1982) and L'Heure Bleue (1983), but failed to achieve the same level of success. At the same time, he devoted himself to painting, and worked with Dick Rivers as producer and videographer, Les Wampas, Michel Delpech and Roch Voisine. Back on stage with new material, he recorded the live album Coutin Live (1991) at Lille's Aéronef, followed by Aimez-Vous les Uns les Autres for New Rose Records (1993) and a series of remixes of "J'aime regarder les filles " (1999), Industrial Blues (2001), Le Bleu (2010), Babylone Panic (2012) and Babylone Panic Live (2013). In 2014, the musician joined the Stars 80 tour, along with other performers of hits from the era, to create a musical triptych entitled Coutin Paradise with the albums Welcome in Paradise (2019), Obsolètes Paradise (2019) and Paradis Électriques (2020).
