Belgian conductor Patrick Davin was born in Huy on February 16, 1962. He studied violin at the Conservatoire Royal de Liège, then piano, harmony and fugue. A student of René Defossez, Pierre Boulez and Peter Eötvös, he specializes in the creation of contemporary works, including Philippe Boesmans' operas Au Monde (2014) and Pinocchio (2017), and other scores by Henri Pousseur, Bruno Mantovani, Jean-Louis Agobet, Marco Stroppa and Vinko Globokar. Appointed Music Director of the Orchestre symphonique de Mulhouse in 2012, he was invited to lead several European orchestras, in France, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and at La Monnaie in Brussels, where he died of a heart attack before a rehearsal of Jean-Luc Fafchamps' opera Is This the End? Aged 58, Patrick Davin had just accepted his appointment as Music Director of the Conservatoire Royal de Liège. Among the many operas he conducted, Lalo's Le Roi d'Ys and Lalo and Coquard's La Jacquerie were released on CD.
