Born on June 7, 1967 in Casole d’Elsa, Italy, Patrizia Ciofi is an operatic coloratura soprano. After studying with Polish soprano Anastasia Tomasewska-Schepis in Siena, she attended the Istituto Musicale Pietro Mascagni and took master classes at Accademia Musicale Chigiana. She made her debut in Giovanni Sebastiano at Teatro Comunale, Florence in 1989. She then appeared as Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, and then appeared in various operas at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa between 1991-93. Ciofi made her recording debut on La Sonnambula in 1995. The following year, she achieved international intention when appearing in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. Since then, she has become a leading soprano exponent of major operas by Bellini, Rossini, Puccini, and others. Her recording catalog contains well over 50 releases including L’Americano (1996), Benvenuto Cellini (2004), and Le Nozze di Figaro (2004), which won the 2005 Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording. In 2019, she earned critical praise for her work on Bellini’s I Capuleti e I Montecchi; Oh Quanti Volte.
