Paul Wong

Paul Wong Koon-chung, born on March 31, 1964, in Kowloon City, Hong Kong (known professionally as Paul Wong), is a Hong Kong musician, singer, songwriter and record producer. In his youth, Wong excelled in art, winning several competitions, pursuing a major in design at Hong Kong Polytechnic College, where he was approached by drummer Yip Sai Wing to work on a design project for rock band Beyond's first concert. This collaboration led to his friendship with the band members, eventually becoming a member of the group, initially contributing vocals on the track "Midnight Stray" in 1988. Later that same year, he sang lead on "The Ground," which became one of the band's major hits. Following the death of lead vocalist Wong Ka Kui in 1993, Paul Wong stepped in to replace him, also becoming the band's principal songwriter. Wong embarked on a solo career in late 1999, signing with Universal Records and releasing two albums, Yellow Paul Wong (2001) and Black White (2001), earning him the Gold Award at the Ultimate Song Chart Awards Presentation for two consecutive years. After his contract with Universal ended, he released the independent album Existence in 2004 and in April 2006, Wong signed with Chinese Warner Records and continued his solo career, unveiling Concerto in A minor in 2011 and Paul Wong Collection in 2013. Following an extended break, he made a comeback in April 2024, collaborating with artists Joey Tang, LMF, Ronald Cheng, and Josie Ho on the single "一夥," which reached number 42 on the Top 50 Cantonese singles chart.
