Penny Tai (戴佩妮), born on April 22, 1978, in Segamat, Johor, Malaysia, is a versatile artist known as a singer-songwriter, music producer, frontwoman of the band Buddha Jump, writer, and MV director. She debuted in Taiwan in 2000 with the album Penny and released albums annually until 2006, when she transitioned to digital singles and music video production. Tai has 11 solo albums and three with Buddha Jump, earning numerous accolades, including being the most-awarded female artist at Taiwan's Golden Melody Awards. She won Best Composer in 2006 for Crazy Love, Best Mandarin Female Singer in 2014 for Unexpected, and Best Album Producer the same year. With Buddha Jump, she clinched Best Band and Best Arrangement at the 2015 Golden Melody Awards. Beyond music, Tai is active in philanthropy and was named one of Malaysia’s Ten Outstanding Young People in 2011. She started as a dancer, later turning to songwriting and achieving national recognition in Malaysia before launching her music career in Taiwan. In 2024, she released her 12th album, Dual Flames, featuring reimagined songs she previously wrote for others, along with a new title track.
