Peter Alexander was an Austrian pop singer and actor who was a POW in England toward the end of World War II and returned to Vienna where he began acting in musical comedies. He had a successful career in movies and on television as an entertainer and master of ceremonies. He had his own television variety show from the 1960s to the 1990s. He had a vast number of hit singles including chart-toppers 'Tränen', 'Der letzte Walzer' and 'Liebesleid'. Compilation releases include a two-disc release 'Peter Alexander - Stars in Gold' and a three-disc box set titled 'Peter Alexander 90: Die Neue Best Of'. He died at home in Vienna aged 84 on 12th February 2011.
