One of the pioneers of Nigeria's rap revival, Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike aka Phyno was born in Enugu on October 9, 1986. Rapper, singer, composer and producer, he has been interested in music since his early teens, when he copied tracks he heard here and there. Although he studied administrative management, it was to music that he turned when he moved to Lagos in 2010. Two years later, he began recording his first album, released in 2014 with a host of guests including P-Square, Omawumi, Olamide, Flavour, Runtown and Ice Prince. However, by the time the album came out, he was already well known for his participation in Olamide's two-award-winning track "Ghost Mode", and numerous singles followed alongside the subsequent albums The PlayMaker (2016), Deal with It (2019) and Something to Live For (2021), which welcomed other Nigerian singers and rappers. Between these productions, he teams up again with Olamide for the duo album 2 Kings (2015). Released in 2024, his fifth solo album Full Time Job includes the hit "Do I", which enters the US Afrobeats charts at number 16.
