Formed in Helsinki in 2002, Finnish band PMMP recorded seven original albums before splitting up in 2013 and reforming in 2024. Comprising singers Paula Vesala and Mira Luoti, guitarist Mikko Virta, bassist Juho Vehmanen and drummer Heikki Kytölä, the quintet takes its name from the abbreviation of the formula "Paula ja Miran Molemmat Puolet", meaning "Both sides of Paula and Mira". From their debut album Kuulkaas Enot! released in 2003 and ranked No. 6 in Finland, PMMP has enjoyed success with the No. 1 hit "Rusketusraidat". He went on to collect gold and platinum discs, as well as hits, throughout his career with the albums Kovemmat Kädet (2005), Leskiäidin Tyttäret (2006), Puuhevonen (2007), Veden Varaan (2009), Rakkaudesta (2012) and Matkalaulu (2013). Three compilations summarize the best moments in the band's history, 2000-luku (2009), PMMP (2010) and Hitit (2013). On October 27, 2013, PMMP bowed out with a final sold-out concert at the Helsinki Ice Hall. Even before the split, the guitarist and bassist formed the band Jere & the Universe with other musicians in 2004, and in 2009 the three members, with the addition of the drummer, continued under the name My First Band, which released three albums up to 2014. While Mira Luoti has recorded two albums and made a name for herself on television, Paula Vesala has become a repeatedly successful solo singer. In September 2023, the five members announced their reunion under their original names for a first reunion concert at Helsinki's Olympic Stadium on August 24, 2024.
