Primus

With their funky, slapping bass lines and quirky strangeness, Primus were an oddity of the 1990s alternative rock scene, yet proved highly influential in ushering in a new era of nu metal bands. Formed by talented bass player Les Claypool in California in 1994, the group's early independent album 'Frizzle Fry' earned them support slots with Jane's Addiction and U2 and a major label deal with Interscope as their reputation grew. Their big breakthrough came when single 'My Name Is Mud' became a cult hit on MTV and sent album 'Pork Soda' to number seven in the 1993 US charts. Follow-up 'Tales from the Punchbowl' in 1995 also made the US top ten as the band headlined the Lollapalooza festival, earned a Grammy Award nomination for single 'Wynona's Big Beaver' and penned the theme tune to the adult animated series 'South Park'. James Hetfield, Tom Morello and Fred Durst featured on sixth studio album 'Antipop' in 1999, but the band went into a long hiatus before returning with the well-received 'Green Naugahyde' in 2011. They began working on more new material which resulted in their ninth album 'The Desaturating Seven' in 2017. The concept album, based on the children's book 'The Rainbow Goblins' by Ul de Rico, made it into the top 30 of the US charts, producing two singles, 'The Seven' and 'The Scheme'.
