American hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd originated in Mississippi in 2009 and is the creation of brothers Aaquil and Khalif Brown, better known by their monikers Slim Jxmmi and Swae Lee. After a slow start to their musical careers the brothers began to get noticed on the Atlanta hip-hop scene and had some limited success with a succession of singles. Their first official single was 'No Flex Zone' released in 2014; the song went viral and sold over a million copies. 'No Flex Zone' became the lead single for their debut album 'SremmLife' released in 2015. The album entered the Billboard 200 at number five and spent 19 weeks in the charts eventually being declared platinum, as have all of the album's singles released in its wake. The album was critically well received and demonstrated the duo's creative flair, and although they are generally known as a hip-hop/rap duo, their music stretches far beyond the horizons of both genres. 'SremmLife' was a precursor to 'SremmLife 2', an album which featured the hit single ' Black Beatles' which has subsequently gone on to become the group's defining track.
