Rêve is the stage name of Briannah Donolo, who began earning Top 40 hits on the Canadian charts with her blend of dance pop, electro, and house music in 2021. Donolo was born in Montreal, Quebec, on March 2, 1996. While still a teenager, she sang both the Canadian and American national anthems at a Montreal Canadiens hockey game in late 2014, with a video of the performance going viral in both countries. After relocating to Toronto, she built her audience by posting frequently on TikTok, then made her major-label debut under the name Rêve 2021 with the 2021 single "Still Dancing." The song was followed by "Skin 2 Skin," which sampled the Chicago track "Street Player." Although neither single reached the charts in Canada, Rêve scored a genuine hit with her third release, "Ctrl + Alt + Del," which appeared in the video game FIFA 22, peaked at Number 38 on the Canadian Hot 100, and climbed to Number 7 on the Canada CHR chart. The song was certified gold in February 2022, then reached platinum status in June 2022. "Headphones," a collaboration with Rêve's songwriting partners Banx & Ranx, also went gold in 2022, reaching Number 49 on the Canadian Hot 100 and Number 9 on Canada CHR along the way. During the latter half of the year, Rêve released stand-alone singles like "All Night & Every Day," "Tongue," "Meat," and "Hypersexual." She also appeared on the Canadian Hot 100 yet again with "Whitney," which climbed to Number 59.
