Roachford

Born to Caribbean parents in London, England, on January 22, 1965, Andrew Roachford launched his career as the frontman of Roachford, a soulful pop band whose lineup included drummer Chris Taylor, guitarist Hawi Gondwe, and bassist Derrick Taylor. The band formed in 1987 and released its self-titled debut in 1988. "Cuddly Toy", the album's most successful single, peaked at Number 4 in the UK and Number 25 in America, laying the foundation for a number of successful follow-up singles in the British market. The title track to 1991's Get Ready became another Top 40 hit in the UK, while 1994's Permanent Shade of Blue earned gold status in the band's homeland and double-platinum certification in Australia. Following the release of 1997's Feel and 2000's The Roachford Files, Andrew Roachford briefly pursued a solo career with 2003's Heart of the Matter, only to reform his band for 2005's Word of Mouth. Celebrated for his songwriting and vocal talents, Andrew Roachford joined the British supergroup Mike + the Mechanics in 2010, singing with the group on albums like The Road and Let Me Fly. He collaborated with other musicians, too, partnering with British soul singer Beverley Knight for the collaborative album Twice in a Lifetime in 2020.
