Born on June 5th, 1971 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Roger Yang Pei-an, known by the stage name Roger Yang, started his recording career at the relatively late age of 35, but quickly made up for lost time. The release of breakthrough single "I Believe" (我相信) in 2006 saw him go from down-on-his-luck pub singer to a beloved star nicknamed "Iron Lung Prince" (鐵肺王子) by the Taiwanese media and "Treble God" (高音之神) by his fans. His deft ability to leap up and down the octaves earned him comparisons to the late Taiwanese wunderkind Zhang Yu-Sheng, while as an artist he drew influences from a range of western acts including Jon Bon Jovi and Journey. Roger Yang cut his teeth on the pub music scene, forming the band TNT and performing as their lead vocalist, although later withdrew from the spotlight due to his increasing dissatisfaction and frustration with his professional experiences. He continued to work behind-the-scenes in music during the mid-'00s, singing the theme song "天地無聲" for 劫之末世, the 49th season of the Taiwanese Pili series, before plunging into another low period and losing motivation. However, his luck changed when he scored a record deal with Skyhigh Entertainment Co., Ltd., launching his solo career through the label and releasing his debut studio album, 2AM After Midnight, in 2006, which he took to number five in Taiwan. His fate was sealed. The follow-up, A Perfect World (完美世界) a.k.a. Pei-An Yang's Album No. 2 (楊培安II), debuted at number four on the Taiwanese G-Music charts and in 2008, he received his first Golden Melody Award nomination, also releasing his third studio album, Pei-An Yang's Album No.3 (楊培安III) that same year. After a two-year hiatus from recording, he released his fourth studio LP, The Seeds of Hope, in March 2011, debuting at fourth on the Taiwanese G-Music Mandarin chart's 11th week, with fifth studio album, Beast in the Dark, arriving in 2014. Autism came in 2015 following a five-year break, and a new solo album of Mandopop songs landed in 2020.
