Rolando Villazón

Winner of a Victoire de la musique classique in 2003, Franco-Mexican tenor Rolando Villazón, born in Mexico in 1972, achieved international acclaim at the Salzburg Festival in 2007 in La Traviata with Anna Netrebko. This dazzling start to his career was interrupted by health problems over the following two seasons. Rolando Villazón made a spectacular comeback in autumn 2010 with ¡México ! an opus devoted to the popular Mexican repertoire. In 2013, he twice celebrates his favorite composer Giuseppe Verdi with Deutsche Grammophon's Verdi and the older Sings Verdi recordings for Virgin Classics. A regular partner of conductor Antonio Pappano, he sang under his direction in a new production of Werther and a recital of Mozart concert arias released in 2012 and 2014. At the same time, Rolando Villazón continues his collaboration with Yannick Nézet-Séguin in the Mozart-Da Ponte cycle(Cosi fan tutte, Don Giovanni, The Abduction from the Seraglio). In 2015, the recital Treasures of Bel Canto unveiled lesser-known melodies by Verdi, Bellini, Donizetti and Rossini, while Duets (2017) saw him take on the Russian bass Ildar Abdrazakov.
