Rory Gallagher was an Irish singer, guitarist and songwriter, born on March 2, 1948 in Ballyshannon (County Donegal) and died on June 14, 1995 in London (England), of complications following a liver transplant. A member of the group Taste in the late 1960s, he embarked on a solo career at the beginning of the following decade, during which he developed a passion for the blues, served by a virtuoso instrumental technique. True to his blues-rock roots, he left behind a series of albums acclaimed by fans of the genre, including Live! In Europe (1972), Irish Tour '74 (1974), Calling Card (1978), Photo-Finish (1978), Top Priority (1979) and Jinx (1982), divided between his versions of classics and original compositions. His success extended to the United States, where he toured twenty-five times. A simple, warm-hearted man, Rory Gallagher has exerted a profound influence on generations of guitarists, and remains one of Europe's leading blues specialists.
