Known in his native Cameroon as a top-tier hitmaker, Salatiel Livenja Bessong (born on December 26, 1987) rose to international fame in 2019 for his appearance on The Lion King soundtrack. Throughout his career, he has produced over 100 albums and more than 3000 songs for other African artists such as Mr. Leo, Askia, and Blaise B. Born in Tiko to a Christian family, Bessong quickly picked up on music, and by the time he was 17 he was already making beats for other artists under the tutelage of Emile Ngumboh at M1 Studios. He then formed the group Da Thrill, who made it to the finals at the Nescafé African Revelation and released only one album entitled New Dawn (2012). Following the creation of Alpha Better Records in 2013, he released the single “Fap Kolo” (2014), which won a MTN Make The Music competition and helped Bessong secure a spot at 2014’s iFest. He followed up with “Toi & Moi” (2017) and “Sans Complexe” (2018), a collaboration with fellow Cameroonian artist Magasco. In 2019, Bessong’s never-ending hustle paid off and he was featured, alongside star producer Pharrell Williams, on the song “Water,” included on the soundtrack The Lion King: The Gift, which was curated by Beyoncé Knowles. That same year, he announced the imminent release of his first full-length: Africa Represented.
