An American country singer from Columbia, Tennessee, Shane Profitt grew up within an hour's drive of Nashville. His grandfather gifted him an acoustic guitar for Christmas when Shane was a teenager, and he began making trips to Nashville after his high school graduation to play local shows. While eating dinner in town one night, he fellow country star Chris Janson. The two became friends, and Jason signed Profitt — still a relatively new songwriter at the time — to a publishing deal. The two became sharing shows together, as well, with Profits serving as the opening act for Janson's nationwide Halfway To Crazy tour. Profitt's songwriting skills grew steadily sharper over the months ahead, and Janson recorded two of Profits's compositions on his fourth album, All In, in 2021. Profitt released his own record, Maury County Line, one year later, which the EP marking his official debut. Maury County Line's lead single was "How It Oughta Be," a salute to Profit's all-American upbringing in small-town America. With its blue-collar storytelling and rural southern twang, "How It Oughta Be" became a career-launching hit that peaked a Number 19 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. The song was a Top 50 single in Canada, too, where it reached Number 47 on the Canada Country chart.
