Born in Glasgow in 1967, Spiteri started her career as the lead singer and guitarist with Texas in 1986. She worked with Texas throughout the 1990s and into the new millennium. However, in 2005, after recording the album Red Book with Texas, Spiteri started working on her first solo album, Melody. Co-produced with Bernard Butler, the album was released in 2008 and hit the top three of the UK album chart. Her most successful single from the album was All The Times I Cried, which hit Number 26 in the UK charts. Two further singles Stop I Don't Love You Anymore and It Was You failed to get into the top 100 on their release. In 2010 Spiteri released a second album, Sharleen Spiteri The Movie Songbook, featuring covers of her favourite movie themes.
