Mandopop vocalist Sharon Kwan was born in Los Angeles, California on October 12, 1995. Kwan’s parents were of Cantonese origin and that inspired her interest in Chinese music and culture. She moved to China in 2002 and attended elementary school in the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Having achieved her initial goals, Kwan moved back to the U.S. in 2008. Her interest in Mandopop and K-pop inspired her to start recording – and filming – cover versions at the age of 14. After two years of voice lessons, she began to perform in restaurants and audition for televised talent competitions. In 2010, she appeared on both Super Idol 5 and Season 8 of ETTV Top Idol, where she ended up as one of the show’s final 10 contestants. In 2011, she auditioned in Los Angeles for Season 1 of the Taiwanese show Chinese Million Star. Once she passed the audition, she moved to Taiwan in June to compete on the show, which she won in January, 2012. Kwan signed a deal with Mandopop superstar (and Chinese Million Star judge) David Tao, and became his first female student. She signed with Gin Star Entertainment and released her debut album, Home Girl, in August, 2012. She then collaborated with David Tao on tracks for his 2013 album Hello Goodbye. Kwan released her second album Blossom in 2016. Her next album, Masterpiece, was released in 2020 and featured the singles “Don’t Ruin My Makeup” (featuring Karencici) and “Beautiful but Fragile”.
