Canadian pop singer Shawn Desman was born Shawn Bosco Fernandes on January 12, 1982, in Mississauga, Ontario. From a very early age, he participated in several talent shows and competitions and even appeared in the video for Boomtang Toys' "Squeezetoy" before making his debut with his self-titled breakthrough album in 2002. Driven by the Top 10 singles "Shook," "Spread My Wings," and "Get Ready," the album reached Number 38 on the Canadian charts and was eventually certified gold by the Canadian Recording Industry Association. Released in 2006, his sophomore effort Back for More did not enter the charts but won a Juno Award for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year. He returned in 2010 with a third full-length titled Fresh, which hit Number 29 in Canada thanks to the platinum-selling singles "Night Like This" and "Electric." Alive, his fourth LP, appeared in 2013. After releasing the non-album singles "Victoria" and "Obsession" in 2015, Shawn Desman took an extended hiatus from his recording career, but made a comeback in 2022 with the Top 40 entry "Maniac" after receiving words of encouragement from Canadian rapper Drake.
