Sia Tolno

Guinean, but raised in Sierra Leone, Sia Tolno had a difficult childhood against a backdrop of conflict in that part of the world. Sia Tolno started out as a backing singer, before building her own repertoire and being noticed by the Lusafrica label. She was a finalist in the Africastar competition in 2008, and in 2009 released the album Eh Sanga. Sia Tolno made a name for herself in 2009, opening for Cesaria Evora. Winner of the Prix Découverte RFI in 2011, Sia Tolno released My Life in September. In 2014, she used Afrobeat as a vehicle to talk about the plight of African women on African Woman.
