South Korean band Silica Gel make indie rock with influences from neo-psychedelia, experimental music, dream pop, and shoegaze. They debuted in 2015 under the BGBG Record label. The group is made up of Gunjae Kim (drums), Kyeongmo Koo (bass), Hanjoo Kim (programming, synthesizer), Minsu Kim (programming, guitar, synthesizer), and Woonghee Choi (guitar), with artists Daehee Lee and Minyoung Kim handling visuals and artwork. Over the last several years, the group has made a significant mark on the South Korean indie synth-rock scene. They kicked off their career with the release of the EP titled Silica EP in August 2015. They followed this up with their first full-length album, 실리카겔 (2016), which included popular songs such as "비경," "눈동자," and "ORANGE." Their follow-up EP SiO2.nH2O, released in November 2017, garnered critical acclaim for its psychedelic overtones. This would be their last album for a while, as the members announced they would be joining the military service. In 2020, Silica Gel released "Kyo181" and, in 2021, several tracks such as "Hibernation," "S G T A P E - 01," and "Desert Eagle," which was named Best Modern Rock Song at the Korean Music Awards. The group released the EP Machine Boy in 2023, followed by their second full-length studio album Power Andre 99 (2023).
