Formed in Auckland, New Zealand in 2012, Sole Mio (or Sol3 Mio) is an operatic pop trio comprised of tenor brothers Pene Pati and Amitai Pati and their cousin, baritone Moses Mackay. All three members are of Samoan descent. The roots of the group date back to 2008 when all three members were touring backing vocalists for Andrea Bocelli. Two years later, Moses Mackay and Amitai Pati toured with George Benson during his An Unforgettable Tribute to Nat King Cole tour. The three singers came together to raise funds to attend the Wales International Academy of Voice and live in the UK indefinitely in order to pursue their master’s degrees. In 2012, they performed a sold-out show at the Auckland Town Hall and signed to Universal Music the next day. Their self-titled debut album was released in late 2013 and hit Number 1 in New Zealand and Top 10 in Australia. The album was eventually certified eight-times platinum. Their second album, On Another Note (2015) was another Number 1 for Sole Mio. In 2017, they released the holiday album A Very Merry Christmas was also a chart topper. The group members pursued their own careers for several years before coming together again and releasing the album Coming Home (2021) which hit Number 2 on the New Zealand chart. Taking another break, Pene Pati released his self-titled solo album in 2022.
