Sophie Charlene Akland Monk, simply known as Sophie Monk, is an Australian singer and actress who rose to prominence as a member of the girl group Bardot, winners of the reality television contest Popstars Australia. Born in London on December 14, 1979, she moved to the Gold Coast with her family in 1982 and grew up studying classical opera singing. After graduating from high school, Sophie Monk worked as a Marilyn Monroe impersonator at Warner Bros. Movie World. In 1999, she came into the public eye through her involvement in Popstars, a TV talent show whose main goal was to assemble an all-girl pop band. This led to the creation of Bardot, a five-piece that topped the charts in Australia and New Zealand with both their debut single “Poison” and their self-titled first full-length in 2000. The group parted ways amicably in 2002 but Sophie Monk embarked on a highly successful solo career that started with 2003’s Calendar Girl, which peaked at Number 35 on the ARIA charts. In the following years, Sophie Monk took a break from music to further her acting career, making her debut in the TV film The Mystery of Natalie Wood. In 2021, she returned to the charts with the single “Nice to Meet You,” which went to Number 28 in Australia.
