Born Sophie Alexandra Tweed-Simmons on July 7, 1992, in Los Angeles, California, American and Canadian singer and model Sophie Simmons – the daughter of Canadian actress and model Shannon Tweed and Kiss force of nature Gene Simmons – first entered the spotlight via the reality television route, appearing on US TV series Gene Simmons Family Jewels aged 14. The show ran from 2006 and 2012 and offered a fly-on-the-wall look at the daily happenings of Sophie Simmons, her older brother Nick and her celebrity parents. Initially reluctant to mimic her parents' career choices, she made a tentative leap towards music in 2012, auditioning for the second season of the Fox music competition show The X Factor, but was eliminated in the 'Bootcamp' stage. Three years later, Sophie Simmons released her debut single, a cover of "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer that put an electronic pop spin on the 1998 track and She's All That soundtrack hit with production from REBEL. For the next few years, she carved out a name for herself as a vocalist working predominantly within the dance-pop or electronic pop sphere. In 2017, she contributed vocals to cuts by Amsterdam dance crew Yellow Claw ("Home") - which was featured on their second studio album, Los Amsterdam – Dutch DJ and production duo the Galaxy ("Dangerous"), and Dutch producer and DJ Cesqeaux ("Private Time"). In 2018, Sophie Simmons released two solo singles, "Black Mirror" and "Burn Me Down," writing the first track herself and sourcing inspiration from the hit British TV series of the same name. 2020 marked the release of two new collaborative singles: "Rescue Me" with Borgeous and "Mine" with Felix Cartal. In 2021, Sophie Simmons featured on the dance-pop single "Shadows" with Frank Walker and Nevada. That year, she began teasing the release of her upcoming debut EP through the single "Love Turns Lonely," cracking the Top 10 on the Canadian Adult Contemporary charts. It was followed by "Cellophane" in 2022, and "Right to Be Wrong" and "Crossroads," which went to number 40 on Billboard Canada's Radio Contemporary Hit chart in 2023. Different Songs, Same Sky, her first extended play, was made available digitally via Physical Presents in September of that year.
