Stéphane Degout

French baritone Stéphane Degout – born in Bourg-en-Bresse, France on June 9, 1975 – is best-known for his varied repertoire and for specializing in baroque music. In 1995, he attended the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Lyon, and then partook in a workshop at the Opéra national de Lyon in 1998. That same year, he made his debut in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, which led to multiple roles in productions across Europe and around the world. Stéphane Degout has performed at many of the most famous venues in the world including the Opéra de Paris, the Opéra-Comique (Paris) , the Théâtre des Champs Elysées (Paris), the Théâtre royal de la Monnaie (Brussels, Belgium), the Staatsoper (Berlin, Germany), the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (London, England), the Teatro alla Scala (Milan, Italy), the Metropolitan Opera (New York), the Nationale Opera (Amsterdam, the Netherlands), and many others. Stéphane Degout has won numerous honors and awards including second prize in the Operalia competition by Plácido Domingo (2002), awards for Opera Singer of the Year at the Victoires de la musique classique (2012, 2019), the Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles-Cros (2019) and an International Opera Award (2019) amongst others. Stéphane Degout also received a Grammy Award nomination in 2019. He has performed with ensembles of all sizes but often performs recitals with pianists such as Hélène Lucas, Simon Lepper, Michaël Guido, and Cédric Tiberghien. Stéphane Degout’s vast discography includes titles such as Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem (2003), Puccini: La Bohėme (2007), Fauré: Requiem (2008), Berlioz: Les Troyens (2017), Berlioz: Summer Nights (2019), Bach: St. Matthew Passion (2022), and Mein Traum: Schubert - Weber – Schumann (2022).
