Born in Weimar, Germany on March 31, 1967, Matthias Goerne is one of the most celebrated baritone vocalists of his generation. He studied in Leipzig with Hans-Joachim Beyer and then with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. After making his debut in Bach's St Matthew Passion in 1990, the singer diversified his repertoire as much as possible, performing Mahler and Brahms as well as Paul Hindemith and Hans Werner Henze. Matthias Goerne has played many of the world’s most prestigious venues in Madrid, Vienna, New York, London, Düsseldorf, and Paris. He has appeared on nearly 50 releases including The Hyperion Schubert Edition: Winterreise (1997), The Hollywood Songbook (1998), Arias (2000), Schubert: Erlkönig (2013), and Im Abendrot (At Sunset) - Wagner, Pfitzner, Strauss (2021), his collaboration with South Korean pianist Seong-Jin Cho.
