Born on April 10th, 1989 near the Swedish border and raised in Oulu, Finnish singer-songwriter and chorist Suvi Teräsniska was scouted aged just sixteen by Jussi Rasinkangas, under whose tutelage she quickly landed a record deal with the Helsinki Music Company, a subsidiary of Warner Music. After a brief spell as a backing singer for rock band Yö, she released her debut single, “Sanoja vaan”, in 2007. Swiftly following it up with two more relatively well-received singles, she went on to make her breakthrough with 2008’s “Hento kuiskaus”, which reached number eleven in Finland and served as the lead single from her debut album, Särkyneiden sydänten tie. Also peaking at #11, the LP proved a success, later obtaining platinum certification. The following year, Teräsniska released a Christmas album entitled Tulkoon joulu, which eventually went double platinum in her home country. She matched this achievement with her third album, 2010’s Rakkaus päällemme sataa, which reached number two in the Finnish chart and scooped up three awards at the 2011 Iskelmä Gaala. Frequently releasing new albums throughout the 2010s, Teräsniska bagged her first national chart-toppers in 2013 with a pair of consecutive LPs, the Yö covers album Hän tanssi kanssa enkeleiden and the original work Pohjantuuli. Ascending to new heights and foraying into the world of reality TV in the following years, she appeared in the 2016 edition of Vain elämää (The Best Singers) and became a judge on the Finnish X Factor in 2018.
