California natives The Bellrays (often stylized as The BellRays) began crafting their high-octane blend of garage rock and soul music in the early '90s. Formed by lead singer Lisa Kekaula and guitarist Bob Vennum, who had previously played together in a band called The Rose Thorns, the group made its debut with the only-cassette releases The BellRays (1990) and In the Light of the Sun (1993). Released in 1998, their first full-length album Let It Blast found the band at the peak of their powers, further refining their soulful brand of punk rock. Following an extensive promotional tour that included a stop at Austin's SXSW festival, The Bellrays continued their musical journey on the albums Grand Fury (2000), The Red, White and Black (2004), Have a Little Faith (2006), and Hard, Sweet, and Sticky (2008). In 2010, the group returned with Black Lightning, a 10-track album that was launched via crowdfunding. After releasing the Covers EP in 2016, The Bellrays distilled their influences on the extended play Punk Funk Rock Soul Vol.1 (2017), which was followed by a second installment in 2018 and the compilation It's Never Too Late to Fall in Love with the Bellrays in 2020.
