Formed in California in 2006, The Growlers are dedicated to reviving the fringe rock of the 1960s, from surf rock to garage rock to psychedelia. Spurred on by its creator and leader, singer Brooks Nielsen, the band released its debut album Greatest sHits in 2007, before releasing the eight-volume Couples EP series (2008-2009), a testament to its productivity. After three more albums, Are You In or Out? (2009), Hung at Heart (2013) and Chinese Fountain (2014), The Growlers gain some recognition with the following City Club (2016), produced by Julian Casablancas (The Strokes), for their own Cult Records label. In 2018, Casual Acquaintances is a collection of B-sides and rarities released under the band's own label, Beach Goth. After the departure of guitarist Matt Taylor and other musicians previously, Brooks Nielsen and Kyle Straka find themselves the only two members of The Growlers since the album Natural Affair (2020).
