Bobby Krlic (born 1985 in West Yorkshire, England), known as The Haxan Cloak, is a British composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer. Inheriting his love of music from his parents, he discovered electronic music at age 16, experimenting his own style of folktronica, before enrolling in university, studying sound and visual art. Teaching himself the violin and cello, he assumed the name The Haxan Cloak, derived from the Swedish word häxan (“the witch”). His self-titled debut EP led to signing with Aurora Borealis, releasing his next EP Observatory on cassette-tape only on Halloween, 2010. In 2012, Krlic released The Men Parted the Sea to Devour the Water, a limited-edition live recording, followed by Excavation, named as one of the top 20 dance albums in 2013 by Rolling Stone. In 2014, he took a break from The Haxan Cloak, producing several albums under his own name for sludge metal and noise rock bands The Body and Health as well as co-producing Björk’s 2015 album Vulnicura , leading to further collaborations with high profile artists Goldfrapp, Khalid and Troye Sivan. Turning his attention to film and television, Krlic collaborated with Academy Award winner Atticus Ross that year on Blackhat (movie), Triple 9 (movie) and Almost Holy (movie). In 2019 he composed the scores for Midsommar (movie), The Alienist: Angel of Darkness (series) and Reprisal (series) followed by game soundtracks Red Dead Redemption 2 (game) and Returnal (game).
