Formed around composer/guitarist/vocalist Jonathan Richman, The Modern Lovers' garage rock reflects the candid personality of its author. Their first album, The Modern Lovers (1976), has since developed a cult following ("Roadrunner", "Pablo Picasso"). In 1977, a different line-up was at work on Jonathan Richman & the Modern Lovers and Rock'N'Roll With the Modern Lovers ("Egyptian Reggae"). The Boston band was recalled between two solo albums by its leader, for It's Time for Jonathan Richman (1986) and Modern Lovers 88. 1998 saw the release of Live at the Long Branch & More, dating back to the heyday of the 1970s.
