The brainchild of Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, and Jordan Mailata aka offensive linemen with American football team the Philadelphia Eagles, holiday-loving trio the Philly Specials assembled in 2022 to gift the world their hearty festive fare. Joining forces with the War on Drugs drummer Charlie Hall, the group released a seven-track Christmas charity record that year, A Philly Special Christmas, comprising their takes on wintery classics such as "White Christmas," "Silent Night," and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town." The LP raised over $1.25 million for local charities while reaching number 80 on the US Billboard 200. A follow-up, A Philly Special Christmas Special, was issued in 2023, featuring cameo appearances from Jason Kelce's brother, tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs Travis Kelce, who features on the duet "Fairytale of Philadelphia"—their Philly-centric reimagining of the Pogues' beloved "Fairytale of New York"—and Patti LaBelle, who drops into "This Christmas." Elsewhere, the album brings holiday pop hits such as "All I Want for Christmas Is You," "and "Santa's Night," and all under one snow-covered roof.
