Founded in Canada in 2004, the Road Hammers is a country rock group originally conceived as a side project for award-winning singer, songwriter, and guitarist Jason McCoy. With six successful solo albums to his name already, Jason McCoy wanted to explore his love of Southern rock and trucking songs, so he decided to form the Road Hammers, a band that would operate separately from his solo career. He joined forces with like-minded musicians Clayton Bellamy (vocals, guitar, harmonica) and Chris Byrne (bass, vocals). The trio released their self-titled debut album in 2005, which consisted of originals and classic trucker songs. They were also the subject of a Canadian reality show called The Road Hammers. The album proved to be a success and went Platinum in Canada. The album earned the band numerous Canadian Country Music Awards nominations including winning Group or Duo of the Year in both 2005 and 2006. An updated version of the album – with a slightly altered track list containing three new songs – was released in the U.S. as Blood, Sweat, & Steal (2008). They returned in 2009 with The Road Hammers II, which wasn’t as successful as the first album but still sold well. After the release of the album, the band was put on ice as Jason McCoy resumed his successful solo career. The Road Hammers reunited in 2013, releasing the hit album Wheels in 2014. They followed that up with The Squeeze (2017), and the compilation 10 Big Truckin’ Hits, Vol. 1 (2018). In April 2021, the band returned with the single “The Boys Are Back At It”.
