Commencing their journey in children's television shows, twin sisters Jessica and Lisa Origliasso (born December 25, 1984, in Brisbane, Queensland) dipped their toes into the music industry during their adolescent years, releasing three teen pop albums. However, their serious pursuit of songwriting and singing began after Jessica received a guitar as an 18th birthday gift and the girls formed the band Teal, releasing their initial single "Baby It's Over," which bolstered their reputation as songwriters. They contributed songs for several renowned international performers, including Russia's Tatu and Japan's Miz, before relocating to Los Angeles and rebranding as The Veronicas, securing a record deal as a group in their own right. Their debut album The Secret Life Of... (2005) garnered significant success in their homeland, achieving quadruple platinum status, spawning three Top 10 singles, and earning an ARIA award for Best Pop Release. Their follow-up album, Hook Me Up (2007), featuring a blend of punk-pop, dance-pop, and electro-pop, also enjoyed popularity in Australia, reaching multi-platinum status and yielding the Number 1 single of the same name as well as international hit "Untouched." Their third self-titled album arrived seven years later, with the lead single "You Ruin Me" debuting at Number 1, marking their second chart-topper in the country. The album featured contributions from Butch Vig, Nellee Hooper, Daniel Johns, and long-time collaborator Toby Gad. After a lengthy recording hiatus, The Veronicas made a comeback in 2021, simultaneously releasing two studio albums, Godzilla, and Human, which climbed to number 7 and 5 respectively. In November 2022, they inked a deal with the label Big Noise for future U.S releases, releasing their sixth album Gothic Summer in March 2024, preceded by the singles "Perfect," "Detox," and "Here to Dance." The album climbed to number 6 on the ARIA charts.
