Vanessa Amorosi is an ARIA-nominated pop artist who scored a number of Top 10 hits in Australia during the 2000s and 2010s, including the chart-topping single "This Is Who I Am." Born in Melbourne, Australia, on August 8, 1981, Amorosi began performing publicly at 12 years old. Her debut single, "Have a Look," was released in 1999 and climbed to number 13 in Australia, earning gold status in just seven weeks, however, it was her follow-up single, "Absolutely Everybody," that became an overnight sensation, peaking at umber 6 in Australia and staying on the ARIA singles chart for six months before charting worldwide, following her performance at the Sydney Olympic Games. Both songs appeared on her multi-platinum debut, The Power, in April 2000. Peaking at Number 1 in Australia and number 7 in Germany, The Power was followed by 2002's Change with follow-up albums Somewhere in the Real World (2008) and Hazardous (2009) both certified gold, with the latter record featuring the double-platinum, chart-topping song "This Is Who I Am" as well as "Mr. Mysterious," which climbed to number 4. Those two songs marked her final Top 40 hits in Australia, with Amorosi taking a hiatus from her solo career before returning with 2019's Back to Love as well as compilation album The Blacklisted Collection in 2020, and Amorosi returned to the Australian top 10 for the first time in more than a dozen years with her seventh record, City of Angels, in March 2022, which went to number 7. After a resurgence of popularity, the singer released a slew of singles in 2023, including a duet with Olivia Newton-John, titled “True to Yourself” from the posthumous compilation album Just the Two of Us: The Duets Collection (Vol. 1) as well as “Wolf” and “How Long,” ahead of her eighth studio album Memphis Love, released on November 17, 2023.
