A meeting of minds between Blur legend Graham Coxon (born 12 March 1969 in Rinteln, West Germany) and famed singer/ songwriter, and former Pipettes member, Rose Elinor Dougall (born 12 March 1986 in Brighton, UK), the Waeve announced their arrival on the scene with a debut single in April 2022, "Something Pretty." The fellow Pisceans pay tribute to their astrological sign in their namesake, which is the old English spelling of the word, and offered the first taste of their debut album in September 2022 via the single "Can I Call You." Second single "Drowning" followed in October with two more singles—"Kill Me Again" (November 2022) and "Over and Over Again" (January 2023)—preceding the release of their debut self-titled album in February 2023, a life-affirming mix of freeform jamming, post-punk and post-rock. The Waeve was released via Transgressive Records and charted at number 30 in the UK. They kept up the momentum with City Lights, released via Transgressive the following year and teased by two singles: the title track and "You Saw."
