Retro soul trio from San Diego, Thee Sacred Souls signed with Daptone Records and released their debut album in 2022. Respectively bassist and drummer, Sal Samano and Alex Garcia grew up in Chula Vista, California, where they began composing instrumental tracks in 2017. In search of a vocalist, they hired Josh Lane, whose suave, crystalline timbre is perfectly suited to their vintage 1970s soul, and together they recorded a first track that received rave reviews on listening sites, "Can I Call You Rose?". Augmented by several musicians on stage, Thee Sacred Souls were playing clubs in the Los Angeles and San Diego area with a repertoire mixing covers of classics and original songs, when they came to the attention of Daptone Records founder Gabriel Roth (aka Bosco Mann), who signed the trio after seeing them play in Fullerton. Now a member of the prestigious soul label that revealed - among others - Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Charles Bradley and Lee Fields, the band rehearsed and recorded a few tracks in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, such as "Give Us Justice" and "Will I See You Again?", which was released as a single in January 2021. Then, backed by Gabriel Roth at the console and a team of musicians including The Daptone Horns brass section, backing singers and seasoned soloists, Thee Sacred Souls gave birth to a first homonymous album released in August 2022 and followed by the title track "Love Is the Way", released separately, as "Running Away" in 2023. In 2024, the second Got a Story to Tell borrowed its sounds from multiple influences, between Motown soul, psychedelic soul and "Philly soul .
