Mobilised in response to the coronavirus pandemic, Finnish pop supergroup Toivon Kärki assembled in 2020 to release the charity single “Uuden edessä” (“In Front of Something New”), a standalone track with proceeds going to the Red Cross. Featuring remotely recorded contributions from a whopping 150 musicians including singers, rappers and producers, the genre-straddling track was the brainchild of platinum-certified pop-rock star Lauri Tähkä, who had urged his contemporaries to come forward to take part in the track via Instagram in mid-March. Penning the lyrics alongside rapper Paleface and seasoned songwriter Timo Kiiskinen, he was able to round up an all-star cast of contributors with the assistance of Warner Music Finland, with famed trance DJ Darude, Nylon Beat member Erin and former X Factor contestant Jannika B among them. Underscored by gentle guitar strums and warm brass, the song offered a message of hope and unity in the face of universal uncertainty. It peaked at number two on the national Finnish charts.
