Tommy Torres is a composer, Latin Grammy Award-winning producer, and chart-topping solo artist from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Born as "Tomas Torres Carrasquillo" on November 25, 1971, he graduated from Berklee College of Music and relocated to Miami, Florida, where he composed his first hit — MDO's "No Puedo Olvidar" — in 1999. The song peaked at Number 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart, as did Torres' next composition, Jaci Velasquez's "Llegar A Ti." Two years later, Son By Four's "Cuando Seas Mia" also topped the charts, giving Torres three Number 1 hits as a songwriter. He parlayed that success into an acclaimed solo career, releasing a self-titled solo album in 2001 and scoring Top 20 hits on the Latin Tracks chart with "Como Olvidar" and "Hoy Te Vas." During the years that followed, he balanced his work as an artist with his work as a sought-after songwriter and nascent producer. He earned a Latin Grammy nomination for his work on Ednita Nazario's Acústico in 2002, produced Ricky Martin's quadruple-platinum Latin release Almas del Silencio in 2003, and helmed Ednita Nazario's Por Ti later that same year. Almas del Silencio and Por Ti both won awards for "Best Pop Album" at the Billboard Latin Music Awards in 2004, with Torres earning a nomination for "Producer of the Year" at the same ceremony. 2004 brought additional accolades in the form of Torres' sophomore album, Estar de Moda No Está de Moda, which included four Number 1 Puerto Rican hits, as well as Ricardo Arjona's Grammy-winning album Adentro, which Torres produced. Torres' third solo record, Tarde o Temprano, charted at Number 1 in Puerto Rico for four weeks in 2008, with the singles "Tarde o Temprano" and "Imparable" both topping the radio airplay charts, cracking the Top 10 in Mexico, and charting within the Top 20 in America. Tarde o Temprano later received a Latin Grammy nomination for "Best Singer-Songwriter Album" and a Grammy nomination for "Latin Pop Album of the Year." 12 Historias followed in 2012 and peaked at Number 1 on the Latin Album Charts, with El Playlist de Anoche following in 2021.
