Turbo is a K-pop group from Seoul, South Korea, initially formed by Kim Jong-kook and Kim Jung-nam. Before they started Turbo, Kim Jung-nam worked as a DJ, and Kim Jong-kook was a vocalist in a high school band. They teamed up, with Jung-nam taking on rapping and choreography while Jong-kook handled vocals. In August 1995, they released their debut album, 280 km/h Speed, which sold over 300,000 copies by December of that year. Just a year later, Turbo returned with their second album, New Sensation, selling 800,000 copies within two months. However, during the promotion of this album, they faced management issues and went on a break, seeing Kim Jung-nam exit the group and leaving Kim Jong Kook to search for a new member. After auditions with 3,500 hopefuls, California resident Mikey was chosen for the part. With Mikey, Turbo made a comeback in October 1997 with their third album, Born Again. In September 1998, Kim Jong-kook injured his hip while preparing for their fourth album, delaying its release. After a month of recovery, they released Perfect Love in October 1998. Turbo was invited to the Asia Superconcert on December 30, 1998, representing South Korea. This event was broadcast to South Korea, China, and Japan in 2000 and soon after Turbo released their fifth album, Email My Heart, reaching the third position on the charts. On April 7, 2001, Kim Jong-kook left Turbo's agency, Star Music, due to the expiration of his contract. As a farewell, Turbo released a final album titled History, featuring their past hits and three new songs. The album also reached the third position on the charts. In 2015, all three original members reunited to celebrate their 20th anniversary. They released a comeback album on December 21, Again, featuring all three members, securing their first Number 1 spot on the charts with the album’s title single. On July 25, 2017, they released their first mini-album, Turbo Splash, which reached the eighth position on the charts, before they disbanded for the last time.
