A leading light of California's lo-fi, garage rock community, Ty Segall was immersed in vinyl crates of psychedelic surf groups, scratchy punk, distorted 1970s hard rock and obscure Krautrock records from his early teens and has been prolifically releasing records and playing with an endless number of bands since the late 2000s. Raised by his adoptive parents in Laguna Beach, Orange Country, he first fell in love with music through Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin and played drums in high school bands Love This and Epsilons, spending his time surfing, skating and obsessively going to gigs with like-minded local punk rock kids. Cutting his teeth playing house parties, he befriended John Dwyer of Thee Oh Sees, who released his first proper, self-titled album on his label Castle Face in 2008, and he was soon honing his raw wired garage rock sound on follow-ups 'Lemons' and 'Melted'. His huge output of work also includes his frantic pop outfit Twins, stripped down acoustic project Sleeper, psychedelic stoner-rock beast Fuzz and frequent adventures with his main comrade Mikal Cronin, but it was the mighty, frazzled grooves of 'Slaughterhouse' that brought him to wider attention in 2012. More recently, he started his own label GOD? Records, made an album of T-Rex covers and produced scores of records for other local bands, before working with legendary studio engineer Steve Albini for the first time on album 'Ty Segall' in 2017.
