American singer and actor Tyrese was born Tyrese Darnell Gibson on December 30, 1978, in Los Angeles, California. Though he was interested in music as a child, he began his career as an actor, appearing in ads for companies such as Coca-Cola, Tommy Hilfiger, and Guess. In 1998, Tyrese signed as an artist to label RCA Records, leading to the release of his debut single “Nobody Else.” The song made a splash, reaching Number 36 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Number 12 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. This was soon followed by his debut studio album Tyrese (1998), which debuted at Number 17 on the Billboard 200 chart. This propelled Tyrese to even further fame, and he quickly became the host of MTV’s new weekday music video show MTV Jams. The third single from his debut album, “Sweet Lady,” became the album’s highest-charting hit, reaching Number 9 on the R&B charts and earning Tyrese a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Male Vocal Performance. In 2001, Tyrese released his second album 2000 Watts, which features the smash single “I Like Them Girls.” The album’s third single, “Just a Baby Boy” featuring Snoop Dogg and Mr. Tan, was featured on the soundtrack to the film Baby Boy, in which Tyrese starred in. Tyrese then moved to J Records, where he released his third studio album I Wanna Go There (2002). This album included Tyrese’s biggest hit, “How You Gonna Act Like That,” which hit Number 7 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and Number 3 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Over the course of the next few years, Tyrese continued growing his acting career while continuing to release albums such as Alter Ego (2006), Open Invitation (2011), and Black Rose (2014), which debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard 200. He has a recurring role in the Fast & Furious film franchise as Roman Pearce, making him one of the most highly visible entertainers on the planet. His most recent album, Beautiful Pain, was released in 2022.
